The Inglenook

Elizabeth Marvin

“This arrangement of fireplace and seating is called an inglenook. It is a very old idea and is usually found near a front entrance where a person could shake off the cold from outside, but we are delighted to have one on our second floor. You may have noticed that all the metal fireplace inserts have patterns. The design here however has sculpted figures drawn from Greek mythology. The colored glass in the skylight overhead is a special feature. It is lit from above by natural light during the day and at night, electric lights.”

“Now I will ask you to join us downstairs, in front of the veranda door.”
